Princess Nina Conan Doyle; She Wed Son of Creator of Sherlock Holmes
Princess Nina Conan Doyle, the last of the royal Georgian clan of Mdivanis who married into fame and fortune and whose last husband was the son of the creator of Sherlock Holmes, died Tuesday in London.
She was believed to be in her late 80s, said Florence Feyler of Los Angeles, a longtime friend.
Princess Conan Doyle was the sister of the three princes Mdivani who came from the province of Georgia in Imperial Russia and wed American heiresses.
Since Denis Conan Doyle’s death in the 1940s, his widow had lived alternately in the United States and Europe after selling off her claims to the estate of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Sherlock Holmes’ creator, Feyler said.
She is survived only by a nephew.
