TAXING

Share

Most of us have tax woes--but Universal’s really got ‘em.

Seems that 8,000 to 10,000 of about 40,000 W-2’s sent out by the studio on Jan. 30 came back--possibly because of how much moving around actors do . Most were marked “undeliverable,” due to changed addresses--and with no forwarding addresses, they tell us. Even a handful with the correct addresses made their way back to Universal!

The payroll-tax department’s hired extra help to straighten out the mess, since all the work has to be done manually. “We don’t have a machine that can put all the returns in alphabetical order,” said a harried rep, explaining that the returns are being popped into newly-addressed envelopes. “Last week we were up to the N’s and O’s. Now we’re at the T’s.”

Accountants for Sid Sheinberg and Lew Wasserman won’t be kept waiting: “We never get W-2 forms returned for current employees,” assured the spokeswoman.
