Downey School Board Approves 7% Raise for Non-Teaching Staff
The Board of Education has approved a new three-year contract with its classified employees that includes a 7% retroactive pay raise for the current school year.
About 170 non-teaching employees--bus drivers, custodians, groundskeepers and other maintenance workers--in the Downey Unified School District are covered by the contract, which runs through June 30, 1989. The agreement was approved by the board last week.
The raise will cost the district about $200,000 this year, and future raises must be negotiated during the life of the agreement, said Alan Bott, director of classified personnel.
The classified employees, who ratified the contract last month, were working under the provisions of the previous contract that expired June 30, 1986.
