The Nation : Boston Forbids AIDS Bias

Share

Boston Mayor Raymond L. Flynn announced a policy that bars discrimination against city employees who have AIDS or are members of high-risk groups for the deadly virus. The policy prohibits department heads from refusing to hire or promote AIDS victims, and requires that victims be given the same privileges as other workers, including health benefits. Flynn also said an education program would be set up to help employees understand acquired immune deficiency syndrome. The order seeks to ensure confidentiality for victims working for the city and notes that state law bars making AIDS tests a condition for employment.
