Two teen-agers accused of murdering the parents of actor Patrick Duffy are blaming each other for the shootings, a prosecutor said Tuesday.

In opening arguments, Jefferson County Atty. John Connor Jr. recounted the events that led to the slayings of Terrence and Marie Duffy last Nov. 18 and said the evidence would show that Kenneth A. Miller shot the couple.

Miller’s attorney, Edmund Sheehy, argued that the Duffys were shot by Miller’s friend, Sean A. Wentz.

“Wentz pushed Mr. Duffy back up six feet and shot him,” Sheehy said. “Mr. Wentz then turned the gun on Miller and said: “You better not narc on me, or I’m going to kill you, too.”

Miller and Wentz, both 19 and both of Helena, are accused of two counts of deliberate homicide, robbery and assault. Wentz will be tried later.

Connor told jurors that the two defendants went to the bar, called The Lounge, “with the purpose of committing a robbery, and the defendant (Miller) shot the Duffys.”

He said glass from the barroom mirror and beer and whiskey bottles was found on Miller’s clothing, along with blood of the same type as the Duffys’ blood.
