A sausage packer has expanded its voluntary recall of El Mino Chorizos to Southern California and other areas because the meat may contain “food spoilage organisms,” a government official said. The sausage possibly is sold more frequently in Southern California than in Northern California, said John Calbo, U.S. Department of Agriculture supervisory compliance officer. The recall of the sausage by the Abuin Meat Packing Co. of Elizabeth, N.J., began last week in Florida. Calbo said Dr. Donald Houston of the USDA cautioned against eating the product. “Anyone who has this product should return it to the store where it was purchased. Do not taste the sausages,” Houston said.
