CBS JOINS THE REAL WORLD

Share

I don’t understand all the bellyaching about the CBS firings (“CBS Firings: Toll in Personal Lives,” by David Crook and Dennis McDougal, March 10). It happens frequently among us common folk. No big headlines in the mid-1970s when more than 100 people were fired with a few hours’ notice by Disney.

For years, CBS News employees have been earning their income off the sufferings of others who were “deeply saddened and disappointed.” Did all these people think their own lives were sacrosanct, above what goes on every day?

Andy Rooney wringing his hands. If my memory serves me correct, “60 Minutes” poked around the closing down of a small-appliance assembly plant several years ago and the suffering of the affected employees. As I recall, Rooney ended the program with his usual repartee--no sadness nor disappointment there.

So now those CBS people have joined the real world.
