Gunmen in Belfast fired into a car and killed two major Irish nationalist guerrillas--Gerard Steenson, a notorious assassin for the Irish National Liberation Army, a Marxist splinter group, and an associate, Anthony McCarthy. Police said the attack was the latest development in an internal struggle within the group that has left 10 members dead and 10 injured in west Belfast since Christmas. Irish republican sources said that Steenson--known as “Doctor Death”-- carried out several killings in recent weeks in an effort to eliminate rival leaders who took over the organization while he was in jail.
