Thieves broke into Dutch Prime Minister Ruud Lubbers’ house while he was out last week and stole gold and silver jewelry worth $48,200, police said Tuesday.

Lubbers, who has called for everybody to “turn the rising tide of crime,” has twice chased and caught robbers who tried to break into his wife’s car outside their Rotterdam home.
