The show will go on for the Rio Hondo Symphony Assn., which has received enough contributions in the last week to help stage the group's annual Young People's Concert on Sunday.
The orchestra, which presents four free concerts a year in the Whittier High School Auditorium, is partially sponsored by the cities of Whittier, Pico Rivera and Santa Fe Springs. But the bulk of the group's expenses are covered by private donations. When symphony organizers threatened to cancel Sunday's concert unless $8,000 could be raised, the public responded, said symphony spokesman Dorothea Cummings. While the group still needs more money, she said, "we have received enough contributions to push ahead with Sunday's show," the season finale.
