Jeep
A Times article (March 10) mentioned that the name “Jeep” came from a comic-strip character of the 1930s named Eugene the Jeep. The way I understood it, Jeep came from the initials GP. They were short for “general purpose,” which was the Jeep’s official designation in the armed forces.
