CBS president Laurence Tisch is a “pinstriped goon,” author and radio host Studs Terkel said in Chicago on Wednesday as he joined striking newswriters outside the CBS station there. Terkel, in recalling the “goons” of the 1930s who fought strikers, said that “we don’t have goons like that today. We have pinstriped goons, like Laurence Tisch. He’s doing the same thing, but he’s dressed nicer.” In other strike news, actor Christopher Reeve refused to cross a picket line to appear on Thursday’s “Good Morning America” program on ABC, and the Directors Guild of America contributed $10,000 to writers’ strike fund while Washington members of the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists contributed another $1,000.
