CASTING FOR CASH

Share

“Casting and Cash” was a desperately needed look at a truly obscene part of the film industry--actors paying to meet casting directors because there is no other way to see them. Bravo for getting the word out (by Deborah Caulfield, March 8).

The casting-couch routine in years past was bad enough. This is worse. For a casting person to be paid by the producer to cast a film and then turn around and charge an actor to be seen and heard for the possibility of obtaining a part is just about as despicable as you can get.

No amount of whitewash is going to make it acceptable. If Warners’ can fire a staffer caught at it, how come the rest of the studios and production entitles don’t adopt the same policy?

In an industry where everyone is continually running around congratulating everyone else for anything and everything they do, it is the grossest hypocrisy to allow these vermin to continue.
