Kudos to Steven D. Lydenberg. But the firms mentioned in his “social responsibility” Viewpoints column were primarily American. What of firms from other countries that, for example, still operate in South Africa?

More specifically, the trade publication Automotive News has reported that profits are up for the Japanese auto firm Toyota in the Land of Apartheid. I, for one, would like to know just where Japanese companies stand on the issue of human rights and doing business as normal with (President Pieter W.) Botha, et al. When will they pull out of South Africa?
