A Singapore parliamentary committee said in a report issued Friday that it had found former opposition member Joshua Jeyaretnam guilty of abuse of privilege.

The committee recommended a fine of $500 on each of two counts.

Jeyaretnam, a lawyer and leader of the Workers Party, lost his seat last November after a court jailed him for a month and fined him $2,500 for making a false declaration of his party’s accounts.

Friday’s report said Jeyaretnam, a longtime political foe of Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew, had suppressed information about an alleged case of wrongful arrest during a parliamentary debate.
