Most schools have yet to begin adequate programs of AIDS-prevention education, the American School Board Journal said in a report calling the need for such instruction “a troubling test of courage for school boards.” The report quoted a survey showing that 54% of the largest school systems in the United States have some form of anti-AIDS curriculum, but said that public health experts consider many of these courses too brief and not specific enough to impress youngsters with the facts about the sexually transmitted fatal disease.
