A Brigham Young University official says employees are suspected of stealing 950 paintings valued at $2 million from the Mormon Church-owned school’s 12,000-piece collection in Provo Utah. The thefts were discovered in a campus-wide inventory. “It apparently occurred from 1970 until 1978 or 1980,” BYU spokesman Paul Richards said. He said the school will pursue civil action first to get the artworks back because most of the people who have the works are not the ones who stole them. Many of the pieces are now in museums and galleries.
