Attorneys for the Senate asked the U.S. District Court to compel retired Air Force Maj. Gen. Richard V. Secord to provide the Senate committee investigating the Iran- contra affair with access to Swiss bank accounts used in the suspected diversion of Iranian arms sale funds to the Nicaraguan rebels. Secord, who has refused to permit investigators to obtain the bank records on grounds that it would violate his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination, was held in contempt of Congress last week for failing to comply with a subpoena. In court papers, the Senate asked that Secord be required to respond no later than April 6.
