‘HANNAH’ NAMED BEST SCREENPLAY BY GUILD

Share

Woody Allen’s screenplay for “Hannah and Her Sisters” was named best original screenplay of 1986 by the Writers Guild of America, and Ruth Prawer Jhabvala’s “A Room With a View,” based on a novel by E. M. Forster, was selected as the best among adaptations in bicoastal ceremonies Thursday at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles and the Saint, a club in New York.

Allen, a previous WGA winner for “Annie Hall” and “Broadway Danny Rose,” was also presented--in absentia--with a special award for his career screenwriting achievements.

The awards would appear to single out Allen and Jhabvala as favorites to win Oscars in those same categories during Monday night’s Academy Award ceremonies.
