GLASGOW, Scotland —
About 3,000 people turned out Saturday to protest the planned closure of a U.S.-owned Caterpillar tractor plant in Scotland.
Politicians and labor leaders addressed the rally, which included many of the 1,220 workers to be laid off by closure of the plant in the Glasgow suburb of Uddingston.
On Wednesday, a court ordered the eviction of 808 workers who have been occupying the plant since Jan. 14, when the Peoria, Ill.-based company announced that it is pulling out of Scotland as part of a global cutback.
