Abdul-Jabbar Takes House Off Market

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who recently placed his Bel-Air mansion on sale for $4.2 million, has taken the house off the market, his attorney, Leonard Armato, said Saturday.

Abdul-Jabbar made that decision, Armato said, because of public speculation about his financial condition that has arisen since he listed the mansion for sale.

The house, which was listed with Jon Douglas Realtors in Beverly Hills, has not been shown in several weeks, Armato said.

Friday, Abdul-Jabbar also sold his interest in Sports Club LA, the luxurious facility that recently opened in West Los Angeles, for what was described as a slight profit on his original $460,000 investment. The president of the club, D. Michael Talla, bought out Abdul-Jabbar as well as two other National Basketball Assn. stars, Terry Cummings and Alex English.

All three players were once clients of Tom Collins, the business manager who is being sued for $55 million by Abdul-Jabbar.
