The Region : 100 Held in Drunk Driving Crackdown

Share

Police hauled in more than 100 suspected drunk drivers from East Los Angeles streets this weekend in a crackdown that employed the department’s mobile IBARS--immediate booking and release system, authorities said. The 102 suspected drunk drivers, tagged by police in the Hollenbeck Division, were taken to an IBAR van where they were given a Breathalyzer test, fingerprinted and booked with the aid of a computer, Sgt. Mike Pattee said. The mobile unit enables officers to corral and arrest more drunk drivers by cutting booking time to about 30 minutes and freeing authorities back into the field so they can make more arrests. The operation is financed in part by state and federal grants.
