Hermosa Beach : Killer Whale Bill Endorsed
The City Council has voted 3 to 2 to support a state Senate bill prohibiting the transport of killer whales out of California. The bill introduced by Sen. Robert G. Beverly (R-Redondo Beach) declares the mammals a unique natural resource that should be protected.
Two killer whales were recently transported from Marineland to San Diego’s Sea World as part of the sale of the local amusement park. Council members June Williams and Jim Rosenberger voted against supporting the bill, which Rosenberger said is “vindictive” against the owners of Marineland for closing the operation.
