Federal drug agents in San Francisco arrested two men in an LSD manufacturing and distributing operation they said has been in operation for the last five years. Robert Michaud, 40, of Cloverdale, and Claude Gravel, a Canadian citizen, were released on bond of $100,000 each after being booked on suspicion of possessing more than 10 grams of the hallucinogenic drug. Agents seized 200,000 purple microdots of LSD, apparently the intended twice-weekly shipment from a San Francisco-area laboratory to Montreal, along with $31,000 in cash. A spokesman for the federal Drug Enforcement Administration said the arrests were made on the basis of information from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police who told them Canadian distribution of the drug was handled by a motorcycle gang. The location of the illicit laboratory that produced the drug, however, is unknown.
