AND NOW HERE’S THE NEWS: Is the success of Lou Gramm’s solo album “Ready or Not” causing problems--maybe we should make that causing more problems--in the Foreigner camp? That’s the way it sounds after a recent interview Gramm gave in Canada, in which he revealed that two of the songs on his current solo record were rejected for the last Foreigner album. Gramm also claimed that Mick Jones asked that Gramm only release two singles from his solo album, apparently so the project wouldn’t interfere with an upcoming Foreigner album. Saying his songs got “lost in the shuffle” on the last Foreigner album, Gramm added, “All songs that end up being Foreigner songs go through a process that I don’t particularly agree with.” Gramm had his say on his own album, which is why he hired a crack trumpet player for the record--his dad, Ben Grammatico, a sheet-metal worker who had his own 16-piece band several decades ago. . . .

Speaking of musical differences, Australia’s Eurogliders have split up, with a trio of original members retaining the band’s name. . . . Despite a recent heroin possession conviction, the Smiths’ Andy Rourke will stay with the group during his recovery. . . . And members of Night Ranger, plus Vince Neil and Tommy Lee from Motley Crue, will be on the links April 15 showing off their driving skills as part of a benefit golf tournament designed to raise money for the Sonoma Valley Hospital Foundation. The charity event has been organized by Night Ranger manager B. R. Cohn, who also has commitments from members of the Jefferson Starship, Journey and the Doobie Brothers.
