Countywide : Churches Plan Outreach Program for Homeless

Share

Young Orange County Catholics are planning to mark the International Year of Shelter for the Homeless with an outreach program in four parishes throughout the diocese, officials said.

The programs, all on Sunday evening, are aimed at raising public awareness of “homeless street kids,” and each event is scheduled to include prayer, music, speakers and a soup and bread supper, according to Mary Ann Taeger, associate director of the department of youth and young adult ministries.

In the northern part of the county, parishes have been asked to join members of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Placentia in bringing an evening meal to the Community Resources Center Shelter for the Homeless in La Habra. More than 100 young people have signed up to participate in a work project at the center and then participate in a candlelight procession in the area.
