“London Calling.” The Clash. Epic (AAD). The skimpy packaging shortchanges you on the lyric sheet, guest credits and little snapshots that spiced up the original album. But there’s 66 minutes of music on one disc--and not just any music. In exploding beyond its punk boundaries in 1979, the English band made arguably its best album, which means it’s one of the best of that decade. The music impulsively leaps far and wide--from soul to swing, reggae to rockabilly--and it all carries the Clash’s hallmark blend of fury and tenderness. Sound: good.
