Pasadena Rejects Plan for New Department
A staff proposal to create a new city communications department to better inform the public about activities at City Hall has been temporarily rejected by the Board of Directors.
The new department would have dealt with the media and coordinated the publication of the city’s many newspapers.
Although the board agreed to allow City Manager Don McIntyre to begin consolidating newsletter publication, it decided not to form the new department, calling instead for further study. The department would cost $742,000 a year, according to the staff report.
Director Jess Hughston said most board members support the idea of improving the city’s communication with the public. But he said the staff failed to provide for improving the flow of information from the public to City Hall.
