William Bowers

I was saddened to read in The Times (April 4) about the death of William Bowers, a great story-teller and humorist as well as a top movie and television writer and producer, but your story had an amusing note he would have liked.

The Times said Bill Bowers once worked as Hollywood correspondent for the National Education Assn. Whoever supplied this information probably said he worked for NEA and your reporter never heard of the Newspaper Enterprise Assn. That NEA was a feature syndicate operated by the Scripps-Howard newspapers.

As Bill Bowers used to tell the story around the old Beverly Hills Health Club, he worked as a legman for Erskine (Skinny) Johnson, a Hollywood columnist syndicated by NEA.
