Dataproducts to Buy Former Unit of Exxon

Share

Dataproducts said it plans to buy Imaging Solutions Inc., a former Exxon unit, for an undisclosed amount.

Imaging Solutions, based in Brookfield, Conn., was formerly called Exxon Printing Systems. The company operated as a subsidiary of Exxon’s Reliance Electric Co. until Reliance became an independent company in December when a group of investors bought Reliance and other companies managed by it from Exxon for $1.35 billion.

The acquisition of Imaging Solutions will give Dataproducts, a Woodland Hills-based computer printer maker, all the rights to a solid ink-jet printer it developed in partnership with Exxon. The printer, unveiled last November, works by spraying a heated, wax-based ink onto paper.

For the nine months ended Dec. 27, Dataproducts had sales of $254 million.
