A twisted piece of cloth or a bag about 15 inches square prevented the Soviet research module Kvant from docking properly with the space station Mir last week, Moscow radio announced. Earlier, it was reported that cosmonauts Alexander Laveikin and Yuri Romanenko removed an unidentified “alien object” caught between the module and the space station during a space walk in which they helped complete the docking. The radio said space experts could not understand how the cloth got into the docking unit.
