Fresno City Manager James Aldredge requested the resignation of three top city officials in the wake of a mix-up that cost the city several hundred thousand dollars. Aldredge said he had asked Assistant City Manager Sam McMurry, Finance Manager Allan Charkow and Public Works Director James Martin to resign. None responded immediately. The city was forced to repurchase $5.8 million in bonds under a mandatory call date that was missed because land for a solid waste transfer station was not purchased by a Nov. 1 deadline. Officials at first said the city would lose $200,000, but Aldredge, who became city manager last year, said the loss will be more.
