Texaco Inc. will continue to sponsor national broadcasts of performances by the Metropolitan Opera, despite the oil company’s move into federal bankruptcy court, a Texaco spokesman said. Under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code, “We’re allowed to continue business as usual,” said W. Michael Keenan. “The Metropolitan Opera is considered business as usual here.” The last broadcast of the season will be Saturday. The Chapter 11 filing also will not affect TV broadcasts of Met performances, which are sponsored separately by the Texaco Philanthropic Foundation, he said.
