A Santa Ana youth is in custody in Juvenile Hall in connection with the rape and kidnaping of a woman and the abduction of her 12-year-old daughter last week, sheriff’s officials said.

Lt. Richard J. Olson, spokesman for the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, said the 17-year-old suspect was arrested Monday afternoon in the 1000 block of Triumphal Way in Santa Ana after investigators received a telephone call from someone who had seen the woman’s stolen vehicle in that area.

The youth’s name was not released because of his age. Four other youths were questioned but not arrested, Olson said.

Olson said Tuesday that the suspect was in Orange County Juvenile Hall awaiting a hearing in Juvenile Court, where he is expected to face charges of rape, kidnaping, grand theft auto and robbery.

At about 8 a.m. Friday, the 42-year-old woman had returned to her home in the 12000 block of Old Foothill Boulevard in Santa Ana, where she was confronted by a youth armed with a handgun, who had tied up her daughter.

The woman was also tied up, and she and her daughter were driven to another location, Olson said. There, according to Olson, the youth raped the woman.

The suspect took the woman and her daughter to Lawndale in Los Angeles County where he released them on a street corner and drove off in her car, a 1987 black Nissan, Olson said.
