Alcohol-Related Crime Off, Soviet Official Says

MOSCOW —
Crimes linked to alcohol have fallen following tough measures by the Kremlin to stamp out heavy drinking, an Interior Ministry official said Tuesday.
Alexander Logvinov, a major general in the Soviet militia, told a news briefing the number of drunk people detained by police had dropped by a third last year compared to 1984.
The number of serious crimes committed by people who were drunk had also fallen considerably, he said without giving figures.
