Four people were charged by the Los Angeles city attorney’s office with operating an alleged pyramid scheme in connection with the Airplane Game. Participants were told that they could get $12,000 for an initial investment of only $1,500, City Atty. James K. Hahn said. He said most players in such schemes end up with nothing while the promoters take the bulk of the money. Charged with violation of a state law making endless chain schemes illegal were William Atwell King Jr., 38; his wife, Shirley Hanna King, 36; Sherri Bezanis, 45, all of Los Angeles; and Michael Phillip Oliverstone, 38, of Beverly Hills.
