The former leader of the Soviet Central Asian republic of Kirgizia, Turdakun U. Usubaliyev, has been expelled from the Communist Party, the party newspaper Pravda reported Wednesday.

Pravda also criticized Usubaliyev’s successor, Absamat M. Masaliyev, for failing to call top party officials to account for continuing economic stagnation in the Muslim republic in his report to a recent meeting of the Kirgiz central committee.

Usubaliyev was removed as party chief in November, 1985, after 24 years in the post.
