An attorney for televangelist Jimmy Swaggart denied a report in Wednesday’s editions of the New Orleans Times-Picayune that said Swaggart twice threatened to kill a longtime member of his ministry’s musical band. William Treeby said Thursday that the newspaper report “relied on unproven allegations in lawsuits.” The article--based on records contained in a suit filed by the unnamed band member and his wife--reported that Swaggart once became enraged at the man and threatened to kill him on two occasions. Sources who allegedly heard Swaggart speak about the matter told the newspaper that the preacher had learned of a relationship between the band member and the wife of a member of Swaggart’s inner circle.
