The World : 8 Killed in Pakistan Feud

Share

Pakistani Pushtuns attacked a rival ethnic group in southern Pakistan, killing eight people and wounding 30, in an escalating feud over land. The Pushtu-speaking Pushtuns, blaming Urdu-speaking Mohajirs for the loss of their homes, set 60 Mohajir homes afire in Karachi. The attack followed the eviction of hundreds of Pushtun squatters from unfinished houses where they had lived since being forced from another community by a December army sweep for drugs and arms. Pushtuns said the sweep had been advocated by the Mohajirs. More than 200 people have been killed in feuding since the December action.
