Countywide : 16 Named as Members of Committee on AIDS

A cross-section of medical, business, religious and community leaders was named to a 16-member governmental advisory panel on AIDS, County AIDS Coordinator Penny Weismuller announced Monday.

Weismuller said committee members will make recommendations to county health officer L. Rex Ehling on ways to increase governmental and private funding for AIDS treatment and on how to help prevent the spread of the fatal disease.

Committee members are Robert Griffith, chief deputy director of the county’s Social Services Agency; William A. Baker, director of the Community Services Agency; Timothy P. Mullins, director of mental health for the county’s Health Care Agency; John M. Krumm of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church; Jon Gilwee, executive director of the Hospital Council of Southern California; Dr. Mel Lewis, board member of the AIDS Services Foundation; Bob Haskell, director of corporate and public affairs at Pacific Mutual Life Insurance Co., and Bill Fogarty, of the United Way of Orange County.

Also, Dr. Gerald Sinykin, medical director of Fluor Corp. and member of the Orange County Medical Assn; Robert Gentry, Laguna Beach city councilman; Werner Kuhn, executive director of the Gay and Lesbian Community Center; Juanita Halloran, assistant principal of Fountain Valley High School; Jo-Anne Andre, executive director of the Visiting Nurses Assn; George Chitty, executive director of the Orange County chapter of the American Red Cross; Pearl Jemison-Smith, president of Action (Aids Coalition to Identify Orange County Needs), and Father Jaime Soto, assistant director of Catholic Charities.
