Mass Set for Yacht Broker Robert D. Woodward

A memorial Mass will be celebrated today for Robert D. Woodward, a yacht broker and former president of the Southern California Marine Assn. who died Saturday. He was 69.

The mass will be celebrated at St. John Vianney Catholic Church on Balboa Island. A retired reserve captain with the U.S. Navy, Woodward will be buried Monday with full military honors at Presidio National Cemetery in San Francisco.

Woodward was born in Oakland in 1917 and graduated from UC Berkeley. He joined the Navy in 1943 and served as an officer on a Pt boat in the South Pacific during World War II.

He left active service in 1949 and began his career as a yacht broker in 1959, but he continued in the naval reserve until his retirement in 1967. He also served as president of the Peter Fare National Assn. of Pt Boat Officers.

Woodward is survived by his wife, Jean; by his sons, Christopher of Oakland and Richard of Walnut Creek, and by his daughter, Judith Woodward of Irvine.

The family requested that donations be made to charity.
