Israeli helicopters raided a “terrorist target” south of the southern Lebanese port of Sidon, striking a base used for attacks against Israel, the Israeli military said. The air strike was the second into Lebanon since three Palestine Liberation Organization guerrillas infiltrated into Israel on Sunday and killed two soldiers. A spokesman for the Israel Defense Forces said the helicopters returned safely with their pilots reporting that they “scored accurate hits.” The helicopters, in a nighttime raid, struck near the Saitanik River, one mile south of Sidon’s port area, the military said. It was the 11th Israeli air strike into Lebanon this year.
