An eighth-grader who apparently quarreled with her girlfriends held her English teacher and 13 classmates at gunpoint for an hour in Phoenix before releasing them unharmed. A negotiator talked with 14-year-old Beth Templeton via the intercom at Cholla Junior High School and “convinced her that he would set up a meeting with her girlfriends,” Sgt. Brad Thiss said. Before Beth surrendered, police evacuated two classrooms and told students in other nearby classrooms to lie on the floor in case any shots were fired.
