Building Collapses; 3 Killed
Six stories of a building under construction collapsed today, killing at least three people, injuring eight and trapping up to 30 workers under tons of concrete and twisted steel girders, officials said.
A spokeswoman at Park City Hospital in Bridgeport said the facility was told by police to expect up to 60 injured people from the collapse of the L’Ambiance Plaza building on Washington Avenue. Officials said the building collapsed inward, but they did not know immediately what caused the accident. Rescue workers scampered over huge piles of girders and slabs of concrete to listen for any cries for help.
