The executive council of the International Ice Hockey Federation voted to strip West Germany of victories over Canada and Finland in the world championships at Vienna for using an ineligible player, Miroslav Sikora.

Sikora was born in Poland and played for the Polish team in the 1977 world junior tournament, although West German national team officials said he hadn’t informed them. Players cannot play for more than one country in world tournaments.

The games will be recorded as 5-0 victories for Canada and Finland. Canada has a 3-0-1 record and is in second place. The Soviet Union is in first place at 4-0, having scored 37 goals while allowing 8. The top six scorers in the tournament are all Soviets.
