The Oakland-based carrier said it will withdraw from its contract aircraft maintenance business at the Oakland International Airport. The company noted that the maintenance business had recorded poor financial results and that the airline had concluded that the business was unlikely to become profitable under World’s stewardship. World said it is assisting the 180 employees whose positions are being eliminated, as well as the 628 employees previously furloughed from the contract maintenance business, in finding jobs.
