Stiff smoking bans were proposed in Canada.

Saying “tobacco use is no longer acceptable as a social activity among Canadians,” Health Minister Jake Epp proposed the phased-in bans on cigarette advertising and smoking in federal buildings, which are hoped to lead eventually to a smoke-free society. The government also plans to ban smoking in all offices occupied by federally regulated industries such as banks. Until the full ban takes effect, special designated areas for smoking will be set up by year-end in these workplaces.
