City Gets Back Tape--Minus X-Rating

A missing videotape was returned to Fullerton City Hall in a plain brown envelope Thursday, in good shape but minus a 10-second pornographic segment that surprised about 60 local officials who saw it at a public meeting on April 16, city officials said.

The group was watching a promotional tape about Fullerton at a meeting of the Orange County division of the League of California Cities at the Anaheim Stadium Club. After the Fullerton segment ended, viewers were stunned to see a brief clip showing a nude man and woman engaged in oral sex.

The tape disappeared until it arrived in the mail Thursday in a plain envelope with a typed label and no return address, said Chris Meyer, assistant to the city manager. The tape has been turned over to the police for investigation.

“I guess . . . someone felt it necessary to take the tape that Thursday night and chose this way of returning it to us and in the meantime placed the city in an embarrassing position,” Meyer said. “As far as I’m concerned this is the end of it. Too much has been made of it to begin with.”
