In the latest disclosure of problems with the Army’s new troop carrier, a top Pentagon official has acknowledged that the amphibious Bradley vehicle cannot adequately cross a river or climb the bank on the other side, congressional aides said. Army Undersecretary James Ambrose told a House subcommittee that the $1.5-million Bradley Fighting Vehicle had sunk nine times in tests of its ability to cross a stream, killing a soldier in one incident.
