In a finding that may help resolve much of the debate about cholesterol and health, a 30-year government study concluded that people with lower levels of the substance in their blood have a better chance of living longer. The latest results from the Framingham (Mass.) Heart Study, which has followed thousands of men and women since the 1950s, refute suggestions that very low cholesterol levels are dangerous or that dieting to lower cholesterol is not worthwhile for most people.
